HANCOCK, MI - The new exhibit in the Copper Country Community Arts Center's Kerredge Gallery is “What Makes a Wall” pastel paintings by jd slack May 7 - June 1, 2019.
In her artist's statement, jd slack starts out by saying, “As an artist, I paint what I think about, and I, like so many people, have been thinking a lot about walls. This exhibition of paintings is meant to be a visual and intellectual exercise in thinking about and feeling all the “what” that makes a wall and holds it together.”
jd slack has made many bodies of work and all of them, every painting, is saturated with color and emotion. Some are abstractions of the familiar, others are clearly representational but they all evoke feelings, which is what she invites us to explore with this newest group of paintings. The public is invited to join us for the reception and gallery talk on Friday, May 10 from 6-8pm. Refreshments will be served. This exhibition is supported with a grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Copper Country Community Arts Center is located at 126 Quincy Street in Hancock. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10-6pm and Saturdays 10-2pm. For more information call 482-2333.
