Pasty Fest moving to August

Calumet, MI - The 15th annual Pasty Fest is moving! The event is changing dates, from its traditional date at the end of June to mid-August, this year Saturday, August 17th. Event organizers at Main Street Calumet report the reason for the move is to avoid the issues of June in the Copper Country; rainy weather and overlapping events.

The Copper Country Firefighters Tournament is always held the same weekend in June and has served to split the pool of audience members and volunteers. Holding the event the weekend before the 4th of July has also prevented Calumet from having any events for the 4th of July as volunteers and organizers are always too burnt out to hold two events on back to back weekends. Holding Pasty Fest in August will piggyback (as Heritage Days used to do) on the Great Deer Chase Mountain Bike Race which is held the same weekend in Calumet.

“We hope that moving the event will avoid the rains of June, open up our volunteers to help with a 4th of July celebration for Calumet and increase attendance for both the Deer Chase and Pasty Fest which will share the date this year”, said Main Street Calumet Executive Director, Leah Polzien.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help organize the event can attend the first event planning session on Thursday, March 8th at 6:00pm at the Miners and Merchants Building Boardroom, 200 5th Street, Calumet!
